We all have our reasons for wanting to get fit...
Honestly, it needs to be a pretty good reason just to get us into the gym in the first place.
So here is my reason for why i started my journey and as cliche as it may sound. It all started with a break up. Most disappointingly of all, it wasn't even a bad breakup.
I think the main reason was that i felt i had just let myself go a little. Whilst i wasn't overweight i was starting to get a bit ''fluffy''around the edges. I was getting close to 30 and my metabolism had started to drag its feet and eating just became something of a habit when i was bored. I couldn't run for more than a few minutes without being exhausted. Kids birthday parties now tired me out horrendously. Something had to change.
My first bright idea was to become a vegan and as much as i love animals i just couldn't survive without meat products. Mainly because... i am a VERY picky eater. I did pick up some positive changes here though. I still to this day eat a LOT more fruit, veg and Quorn meat etc. Sometimes when i go out for a nice meal.. i even order from the veggie section!
On top of this i also joined a gym but i'm sad to say, my workouts revolved mostly around cardio. Endless sessions on the treadmill and rowing machine. At some point during this time i started to research fitness in general and decided to add a lot more resistance work into my gym time.
Life changing epiphany! Not only did i really enjoy the feeling of being strong. I liked the changes it made to my body. I never got bulky or heavy. My weight has pretty much stayed the same even though now you can see muscle definition and i now have the strength to do pull-ups all by myself like a big girl.
Since making this change gym has also become a very social thing for me since a lot of my friends have jumped on board and we all help push and support each other.
My newest adventure is my foray into power lifting . I hope that i can develop my skills and strength over the next few months so that i can attend a power lifting meet and (fingers crossed) come away with a trophy... since I've always wanted one and what better time than now?
Wish me luck!
